A higher final invoice usually results from an extension or late return, extras added at the branch, returning the vehicle with less than a full tank or charge, additional kilometres driven or a possible cleaning fee. Each item is listed separately on your final invoice with description, quantity and unit price, so you can see exactly how the total is made up.
Common reasons
Extension or late return – additional rental days (e.g. "extra days", "Flexi late return")
Extras added at the branch – e.g. upgrades, additional driver, child seat, protection package
Refuelling or recharging fee – if the vehicle wasn't returned fully refuelled or fully charged
Additional kilometres – if the booked mileage package is exceeded, each additional kilometre is charged
AdBlue or consumption-based costs – for certain diesel vehicles (e.g. vans), AdBlue is charged per kilometre driven
Cleaning fee – e.g. for smoke odour, pet hair or heavy soiling of the interior
How to read your invoice

A SIXT invoice typically includes rental days, protection packages, extras, fees, any additional charges and the relevant taxes. Each item is listed individually – here you'll find what each line means and where it comes from.
Typical items
Rental days / extra days – the daily rate of your booked tariff × number of rental days; extra days result from extensions or late returns
Protection package – fully comprehensive/theft cover, excess reduction, all-inclusive components (e.g. interior cover, mobility service) – charged per day
Extras – additional driver, sat-nav, child seat, winter tyres
Registration / road usage fee – the name and amount vary by country of rental
Additional kilometres – charged per km if your booked mileage package is exceeded
AdBlue – for certain diesel vehicles (e.g. vans), charged per kilometre driven
Refuelling or recharging fee – if the vehicle is returned with less than a full tank or charge
Late return fee – e.g. "Flexi late return"
One-way fee – if the return location differs from the pick-up location
Taxes – insurance tax and VAT (rate varies by country)
Where the amounts come from
Rates and booked extras come from your signed rental agreement. Refuelling/recharging fees, additional kilometres and late return charges result from the return check.
Note: Fines and damage charges are not billed via the final invoice but separately – you'll receive a dedicated notification from SIXT if applichible.

Your SIXT rental agreement is the contract you sign at pick-up and contains all the key information about your rental: vehicle, rental period, rate, protection package, excess, fuel level and any existing damage. Keep it until you receive your final invoice – it's the basis for any queries or claims.
Key sections
Rental agreement number – your reference for any enquiry
Renter / driver – name of the main driver
Pick-up and return – date, time and location
Vehicle details – registration, model, vehicle category, mileage and fuel level at pick-up (e.g. "8/8")
Rate – rental days at the daily price, protection packages, extras and taxes shown as individual line items with quantity and unit price
Included kilometres and price per extra km – how many kilometres are included in your rate and the cost of any additional kilometres
Liability limitation with excess – the amount of your excess in case of damage
Payment information – payment method, card and authorised amount
Existing damage recorded at pick-up
Any existing damage to the vehicle is listed on the rental agreement (location, type and size of damage – e.g. "Front bumper, passenger side, scratch 5–10 cm"). Check the vehicle once more for damage before driving off and report any unrecorded damage directly to the SIXT staff member at the branch before you set off.
Cross-border rules
Your rental agreement lists the countries you may travel to with your vehicle category. Please review the listed zones and restrictions before driving abroad.
