Most SIXT locations have a key drop box – simply park the car, lock it, drop in the key, and ideally take a few photos of the vehicle's condition, fuel level, and mileage.
Step by step
Check whether your planned return location has a key drop box or other out-of-hours return options available
Park in the designated SIXT car park
Take photos of all four sides, the interior, the mileage, and the fuel gauge – with a timestamp if possible
Lock the vehicle
Drop the key into the key drop box
When your return will be processed
As soon as the SIXT location reopens
You will receive your final invoice by email within 48 hours of the return inspection
Out-of-hours return charges
Some locations charge a small fee if you use an alternative to the key drop box – this will be shown on the booking page.

If you return the vehicle later than agreed in the rental contract, the extra days will be charged as a rental extension. If you do not inform SIXT about the extension, an additional service fee (Flexi Return Service) will apply.
The easiest solution: extend your rental in the SIXT App or via the website as soon as you know you'll be returning the vehicle late.

If you inform SIXT beforehand, only a small handling fee applies for adjusting the return date, time or location

You can generally return your vehicle outside of opening hours
