General Rental Information
Depending on your country of permanent residence, we will require the following forms of identification from you at Vehicle pick-up. You must bring original proof of the required documents. Photocopies or other copies will not be accepted.
A full driving licence valid for the entire Rental Period and 2 forms for Proof of Address not older than 3 months at the time of vehicle pickup. If the driving licence does not contain a photograph of driver, then an additional proof of ID will be required in the form of a passport or National ID card.
If you are living outside the United Kingdom, in addition to your driving licence, we require a passport or ID card which is valid for a period of at least 3 months beyond the end of the Rental Period. There can be no visa exemptions in the Passport for the period of 6 months before the end of the Rental Period.
Driving Licence Requirements
You and all approved drivers must be in possession of a full, valid driving licence for at least one year. Furthermore, the following conditions apply depending on the issuing country of the driving licence.
UK Driving Licences
In addition to your licence, either a valid and up to date DVLA licence check code or a printed DVLA endorsement record must be provided for all Approved Drivers. A valid DVLA code or printed endorsement can be obtained from the DVLA website (www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence). For the validity of the code, please refer to the DVLA guidelines. Drivers under 24 years of age must not have any endorsements on their licence. For drivers 24 years of age and older, the maximum number of points on the licence is 6. However, some endorsements on your licence may restrict your ability to drive the vehicle, even if you have 6 or less points on your licence. If you or any other driver have any endorsements on your licence, please contact our call centre on 08444 99 33 99 to check if you qualify to drive.
EU Driving Licences
Valid driving licences of all other EU countries are accepted in the UK without further preconditions.
All Other Licences
Driving licences printed with non-Roman Alphabet (Arabic, Japanese, and Cyrillic) must be accompanied by a valid International Driving Permit.
Chinese driving licences, no International Driving Permit is required, however you must provide a valid translation form for the licence (available from the Sixt China Customer Service by contacting
Indian driving licences will require an International Driving Permit if the original licence does not contain a small electronic chip on the front of the card.
For all non-European licence holders, it is the responsibility of the renter to check whether an international Driving Permit is required.
Certain regulations apply related to minimum age and possession of driver's license which can be found during the booking process depending on the booked vehicle.
In Great Britain, the following rules apply for the minimum age and possession of a driver's licence:

Non-EU citizens can drive vehicles with up to 9 passenger seats (FVMR).
A young driver surcharge applies for drivers under 28 years.
Methods of Payment
The following methods of payment are accepted by Sixt in the UK. Any method of payment that is not mentioned below cannot be accepted.
Cash Payment is not accepted.
All credit cards must be in the main renter's name. The following credit cards are accepted in the UK: American Express, Visa, Eurocard/Mastercard, Diner's Club, JCB, Discovery Card
The following debit cards are accepted: American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Diners Club, JCB, Maestro and Discover. We do not accept V-Pay, pre-paid debit cards or Visa Electron cards. You can only rent vehicles in the following categories when your method of payment is a debit card: E***, C***, I***, S*** and F***.
Sixt CarExpress Servicecard (Advantage Circle) is only accepted in combination with a valid means of payment.
For any voucher bookings, you need to present the original valid voucher. Along with the voucher, we will require your own credit card for any charges that are not covered by the voucher.
Debit Card Deposits
The deposit amount is immediately debited from the cardholder's bank account and is held by us until the Rental Agreement is terminated and all rental charges are cleared. Unless you settle all rental charges on return of the vehicle you authorise us to allocate the monies held on deposit against such rental charges. We will refund you any excess held by us over the rental charges.
Credit Card Approvals
The approval amount is not immediately debited but held on the cardholder's bank account until the final rental charge amount has been paid to us. When the Vehicle is returned, the invoiced amount will be charged to the credit card provided, unless you present another form of payment.

Prepaid tariff - Pay now
When booking at a prepaid rate, the payment will be charged along with the total rental price (incl. booked extras and charges) prior to the rental. The renter must be the owner of the indicated payment card. The named driver and the method of payment shall be finalised at the time of reservation and cannot be changed afterwards. The confirmed card should be valid and available for presentation on collection of the vehicle. All extra costs that occur during the car rental will be charged to this credit card. The maximum rental period for a booking at the
prepaid rate is 27 days. A refund shall not be issued for non-collection, vehicle being collected late or returned early.
A prepaid booking can be changed up to one hour before the start of the rental (depending on availability). There will be a booking modification fee of GBP 29.99 plus any difference between the original rate and the newly applicable rate.
Any changes made to a prepaid reservation may impact the rental rate. Any payment already made towards the rental will not be refunded; nor shall any differential amount be refunded if this alteration leads to a lesser rental cost. A change from a prepaid rate to a non-prepaid rate is not possible.

A booking can be cancelled before the start of the rental. In the event of cancellation, the payment already made towards the rental will be paid back subject to a cancellation charge. The cancellation charge shall be the amount of the rental charge (incl. booked extras and charges) for a maximum of 3 rental days. In the event that the booked vehicle is not collected or not collected at the agreed time, the rental charge already paid shall be withheld in full.
Third party insurance
Insurance coverage for the vehicle rented includes Third Party Liability. This protection provides cover for claims made against you in the event of the death or injury to the other party in an accident (unlimited liability). It also provides cover for damage to their property (up to 5,000,000 GBP). The hirer, as the main driver, will be responsible for any costs in excess of this in relation to third party damage.
Excluded from the insurance is the use of the vehicle for the transport of dangerous goods. All protection as part of the rental contract will become void, in particular, if an unauthorized driver has used the vehicle or if the driver of the vehicle does not possess the required driver's licence at the time of the event giving rise to claim.
Special conditions apply to the terms of our third party insurance for anyone whose primary occupation is a Restricted Profession. The professions include, professional sports people, professional actors, musicians, TV personalities and/or Royalties. Please see the Terms & Conditions for further information.
Loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection)
Loss Damage Waiver removes the driver's responsibility to a part of the vehicle in case of damage or theft. Dependent upon your booking rate, the Loss Damage Waiver will either be included or will be available to include additionally.
If loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) is accepted, the customer is entitled, depending on the vehicle, to a deductible of GBP 1,000.00 to GBP 5,000.00. In addition, a reduction of the deductible is possible. You are only responsible for the damage to the vehicle up to the amount of the excess plus an administration fee, each time you damage the vehicle.
Admin fees for damage claims are charged depending on the value of the claim as follows:

In the event of willful or grossly negligent damage caused, a claim on the agreed fully comprehensive cover (incl. theft cover) can be reduced or lapsed.
If no Loss Damage Waiver (incl. theft cover) has been arranged, the leaser is responsible for all damage to the car not proven to be caused by a third party, and shall be liable for up to the full value of the vehicle.
Loss damage waiver (including Theft Protection) with minimum excess also covers damages to glass tyre.
Loss damage waiver (including Theft Protection) with minimum excess is not available for renters under the age of 25 years and is not available for groups in the category X***.
Thanks to the interior protection, liability can be reduced to a predetermined deductible or eliminated if the vehicle interior is soiled or damaged.
Tyre and Glass Protection
The tyre and glass protection waives your responsibility in the event of damages to the tyres, windscreen, side windows, rear-window or mirror glass with a deductible of GBP 0.00.
If the protection is not accepted, the customer will be held liable for the full extent of the damage.
The roadside protection is an extended breakdown protection during the rental and protects you at home against high service and repair costs for the following incidents caused by you: key locked in vehicle, breaking caused by lack of fuel, assistance with starting necessitated by flat battery, loss of key and vehicle stuck.
All services may only be ordered by a direct claim with Sixt 24-hour Roadside Assistance. They shall also determine the type and extent of service required to ensure the renter stays mobile. If any damage to the rental vehicle occurs which is not covered by Sixt within the scope of the Roadside Protection, the renter is liable for such damage.
Cross border rentals, rentals to the island of Ireland, the British Isles and territorial restrictions
Commercial vehicles, categories P***, L*** and X*** and MPV (8+ seats) are permitted overseas to the island of Ireland and within the British Isles. They are not permitted to go to mainland Europe.
The vehicle selection can restrict travel to certain countries. For a description of these restrictions on admission, the countries are divided into three zones.
Zone 1: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and Vatican
Zone 2: Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia
Zone 3: All countries which are not in zone 1 or 2.
Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi, Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mini are only allowed to enter Zone 1 countries (except of above mentioned car groups).
Entry into any country in zone 3 is not permitted.
The transport of the vehicle by ferry is permitted in compliance with the above-mentioned entry restrictions. Damage to the vehicle during the crossing will be covered according to the protection booked in the rental contract, except damages due to external effects like heavy seas or sinking.
In case of offence against cross border and territorial restrictions all insurances lose their validity.
UK & Ireland Revovery for Ireland, Northern Ireland and the British Isles
The UK & Ireland Recovery Fee authorizes for trips to the island of Ireland and the British Isles. The Fee per rental is 36,00 GBP.

Charges when traveling abroad
A foreign use charge applies for all rentals outside UK. This charge is 60% of the basic rental price.
If the desired one-way rental is possible, respective charges may apply.
In the case of unannounced and unauthorised one-way rentals, we reserve the right to charge an additional fee.
International one-way rentals are not allowed.
Navigation systems are guaranteed to be available if a booking is made.
If a booking is not made, this is dependent on availability.
SIXT Connect / SIXT Connect Plus
A mobile device will be provided that can be used to access the internet and make phone calls worldwide (provided a booking is made). Subject to availability, at selected stations only.
A charge is levied for the additional driver, whose details are noted in the lease only if the additional driver presents a valid driver's license.
Baby and booster seats
Baby seats, child seats and booster seats for children from 0 to 36 kg are guaranteed to be available if a booking is made (groups 0+, 0, 1, 2 and 3).
If a booking is not made, this is dependent on availability.
If desired, the vehicle will be refueled according to currently available conditions after returning it to the station.
Please note, that in case of refuelling a service fee will apply.
Alternatively, you may purchase a full tank of fuel at the time of rental at a price that is competitive with local fuel stations and return the tank empty. No refunds will be given for unused fuel.
Alternatively, you may book a tanking service for a fee and return the tank empty. The refueled liters will be charged at a price that is competitive with local fuel stations additionaly to the prior noted refuelling service fee. Subject to availability, at selected stations only.
Delivery and collection
Deliveries and collections are available at the local rental station subject to a fee.
This service is available on request for an additional commitment fee outside opening times at selected locations.
Other charges and taxes
Premium location fee
A premium location fee occurs for rentals at airport and train stations.
Out of opening hours
Out of opening hours service is available at selected stations. In this case, an additional charge applies for the provision of the service.
Registration fee / Road tax
There will be a road tax, which is included in the rent.
There are some cities in the UK, for example London and Durham, that charge congestion fees for driving in and through them. The renter is responsible for checking the congestion terms and is liable for the payment of such fees. For rentals commencing from a branch within a Congestion Zone, the Congestion Charge will automatically be applied to the rental agreement to cover the first day of hire. You will remain liable for the payment of congestion fees for any other additional days.
In case of non or late payment, additional fees may be incurred which the renter will be liable for. An administration fee of 40.00 GBP will apply for every transaction handled by Sixt.
Traffic Fines / Driving Penalties
The renter is liable for the payment of all charges, penalties and fines incurred in connection with the use of the vehicle. Payment of Toll fees are also in the responsibility of the driver. Drivers will be liable to pay all penalties/fines related to late, or nonpayment of a traffic offence. An administration fee of 40.00 GBP will apply for every transaction handled by Sixt.
Flexi Return Guarantee
Plans can change. As a flexible mobility partner, we are happy to adapt to your plans. Thanks to our Flexi Return guarantee, you have the freedom to return the vehicle at any time to an authorised Sixt station, regardless of the rental agreement.
If your plans change during your hire period, let us know by telephone on +44 (0)844 499 3399 or in person at any of our numerous stations, and our employees will amend your rental contract. By doing this, we can adapt to your changed plans.
Flexi Return Guarantee in the tariff Pay later
If you return your vehicle earlier than agreed in the rental contract, we will charge the rental price according to the rental contract. You will receive a partial discount for the unused rental days.
Flexi Return Guarantee in the tariff Pay now
When booking at a prepaid rate, a refund shall not be issued for returned early. For further information please refer to the section Prepaid Tariff - Pay now.
Flexi Late Return in both tariffs (Pay later & Pay now)
If you return the vehicle later than agreed in the rental agreement, extra days may be charged due to the rental extension. The price of these will be based on the shorter hire duration. If you do not inform us about the rental extension, we will charge an additional service fee of GBP 12.00 for the Flexi Return service.
Flexi Return Location in both tariffs (Pay later & Pay now)
If you return the vehicle to a station other than that agreed in the rental contract, the Flexi Return location will incur a service fee of GBP 19.99 if we have not been informed of the changes to the rental contract in advance.
Product information Sixt+
The contract has a minimum term of 30 days and commences on the fixed date of the vehicle handover as announced to the Customer by Sixt. Once the agreed minimum term has expired, the term of the contract shall be automatically extended by a further 30 days at a time (known as the '30-day billing period'), up to a maximum of 90 days. The maximum term of the contract is 90 days. Unless the contract is terminated by either party in accordance with the provisions set forth in these SIXT+ GTC, the vehicle must be returned to a Sixt branch on, or before the 90th day. Subsequent contracts may be commenced without a second starting fee following the return of the vehicle.
A one time only sign-up fee is charged per contract. The amount of the sign-up fee is shown during the reservation process.
Sixt vehicles have a limited holding period and mileage. Therefore, Sixt has a right to exchange the vehicle delivered to you during the contract period when a certain holding period or mileage is reached. If a vehicle exchange is necessary, you will be contacted in time by the station and are obliged to return the vehicle to the specified Sixt station on the agreed date. You will receive an equivalent replacement vehicle for the exchange.
A service fee of GBP 500.00 will be charged if the vehicle is not returned in time for the specified exchange date.
An exchange of the vehicle for another vehicle model is possible on request, subject to availability. The fee is GBP 49.99 per customer-initiated exchange process and applies regardless of whether it is a vehicle model from the same or a higher / lower vehicle category.
If you change to a vehicle model from a different category than the one booked, the following applies to adjust the regular fees:
1. A change to a higher category results in the higher category being charged for the entire started 30-day billing period.
2. A change to a lower category only leads to a price adjustment in the following 30-day billing period.
Replacement car guarantee
Free replacement car in the event of accidental damage caused by yourself. For a monthly fee of GBP 15.98, with a SIXT+ subscription contract you can be sure that even in the unlikely event of a self-inflicted accident you will remain mobile with a replacement vehicle. You don't have to wait for your subscription vehicle to be repaired and are immediately mobile.
One-Time Replacement Car Fee
You´ve had a self-inflicted accident and have missed to book the Replacement car guarantee beforehand? In this case you can still remain mobile with your Sixt+ subscription. For a one-time fee of GBP 199.00 (per replacement car request), we immediately provide you with a replacement car. upon availability. Hence, you can continue your subscription right away without having to wait until the damaged vehicle has been repaired.
You are entitled to drive the vehicle provided in Great Britain. Use abroad is prohibited. For each violation a contractual penalty of GBP 150.00 will be charged.
Mileage not reported fee
At the end of a month you will be asked to enter the current mileage of the vehicle. This information can be entered directly via the app.
If you should not comply with the entry once, we will charge you a handling fee of GBP 9.99. For each additional report of the current mileage not received in time, we will charge you GBP 19.99.
Notwithstanding the possibility to terminate the contract at any time by returning the vehicle at any Sixt station, the customer will announce the return of the vehicle via the Sixt app at least 7 days before the end of the current billing period and a binding return date at a Sixt station will be agreed.
There is an additional service fee of GBP 39.98 if
- you do not arrange a return date and return the car unannounced to a Sixt station or
- you agree on a date for return, but do not take this date or
- you agree on a return date, but then return the vehicle at a different Sixt station than the one specified in the return date.
Please note that you will not receive a refund for unused rental days.
