Damage claims

Every SIXT hire car comes with third-party liability insurance. You can reduce your excess in case of damage by adding extra protection options – right down to zero excess. Intentional damage, gross negligence and breaches of the rental agreement are not covered by any protection.

Always included

  • Third-party liability insurance – covers damage caused to third parties by the hire car, in line with statutory requirements

  • 24/7 Roadside Assistance – immediate help with breakdowns, tyre damage, battery problems or lockouts – around the clock

Optional add-ons

  • Excess reduction – reduces your excess in case of damage to a lower fixed amount

  • Loss Damage Waiver with zero excess – removes your excess entirely for covered damage

  • Tyre and Glass Protection – covers the cost of damage to tyres, the windscreen, side and rear windows as well as the mirrors

  • Interior Protection – covers soiling or damage to the vehicle's interior that would otherwise lead to a cleaning or repair charge

  • Personal Accident Insurance – protects you and your passengers against personal consequences of an accident during the rental period

Not covered

  • Intentional damage or gross negligence

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs

  • Breaches of the rental agreement (e.g. unauthorised drivers, off-road driving, travel to non-permitted countries)

  • Loss of personal belongings (please use your travel or home contents insurance)

  • Administration fees for traffic offences
