Driving Tips

Drive around the beautiful city of Stockholm

Although Sweden's roads are generally well-maintained and well-signposted caution must be taken when driving your rental car at night and during the long Winter months. It is not unusual for moose, deer and other wild animals to be on the road. Sweden has two main motorways, the E6 runs from Trelleborg to Oslo in Norway while the E4 stretches from Helsingborg to the Finnish border.

  • Kilometres are used for distances and speed limits.
  • Dipped headlights are required at all times.
  • From 1st December to 31st March Winter tyres must be fitted and snow chains are allowed. It is compulsory to have antifreeze in windscreen fluid and snow shovels must be carried.
  • A daily congestion charge of 20 SEK applies in the cities of Gothenburg and Stockholm while the bridges of Sundsvall and Motala have toll stations. Sundsvall is 15 SEK a day while Motala is 10 SEK a day.
