What is a car subscription, what is the difference to leasing, and what are the conditions?

WHAT BENEFITS ARE INCLUDED IN THE MONTHLY RATE? WHAT DO I NEED TO TAKE CARE OF?

The monthly rate already includes everything you need to directly start driving your car. Specifically, we take care of all of the following for you:

  • Registration, and vehicle road tax
  • Maintenance & wear costs
  • Tyres, including change and storage
  • Liability insurance & theft protection
  • Basic comprehensive insurance with deductible
  • Free miles (variable depending on the vehicle)
  • Regular vehicle costs & loss of value (depreciation)

WHAT OTHER COSTS CAN OCCUR ON TOP OF THE MONTHLY RATE?

Apart from the monthly installment, there is a one-off sign-up fee at the start of your car subscription. This ensures that you can start using your new vehicle after just 5 days. Please note our fee table in the SIXT rental information.

When renting a rental car, it is also common to leave a deposit as security for the rental car. This deposit amount is reserved on the means of payment upon collection and depends on the rented vehicle group.

IS THERE A MINIMUM CONTRACT PERIOD?

The minimum term is only one month, more precisely 30 days. The SIXT+ car subscription runs very flexibly and is billed in 30-day periods. When you conclude your SIXT+ car subscription, you drive your car from the start date you defined for 30 days at the subscription fee specified upon booking. If you decide to return your car right within this period, your SIXT+ car subscription will be terminated after one month. You can return your vehicle at any time before the 30-day period ends. We kindly ask you to inform us of the return date at least seven days in advance so that we can optimally prepare the return. You can easily arrange your return date in the SIXT app. If you hand in the vehicle without giving a return date, we will charge you a fee of £29.99.

If you want to continue using the vehicle, just keep driving. Please note: Your subscription contract has a maximum duration of 90 days (3 subscripton periods of 30 days each). For more information see the FAQ "What is the maximum contract duration?"

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM CONTRACT DURATION?

This contract has a maximum duration of 90 days (3 subscripton periods of 30 days each). You need to return the vehicle to the SIXT branch before the end of the 3rd 30 days period. Before the end of your maximum contract period, you will receive an e-mail reminding you of the drop-off well advance.

HOW LONG CAN I CONTINUE TO DRIVE MY SIXT+ CAR?

Depending on the mileage or holding time of your current vehicle, it can be required to be replaced with another, equivalent vehicle, i.e. one that corresponds to the contractually-agreed vehicle group. You will be informed well in advance about the necessary vehicle exchange by the responsible SIXT branch, and we will arrange an appointment for you to exchange. You don't have to worry about anything, and you get a new, clean, perfectly-maintained, and safe car of the same category.

There is no additional charge for a vehicle exchange, as long as you stick to the agreed date. SIXT can terminate the contract in case of breach with the terms and conditions upon written notice.

CAN I TAKE THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE UK?

Unfortunately it is not possbile to take your SIXT+ vehicle outside of the UK.

WHY DO I NEED TO PAY A ONE-TIME SIGN-UP FEE?

With the sign-up fee, which you only pay once at the beginning of your subscription, we cover all organizational and logistical processes, with which we can get your car ready for use within a very short time. 

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO SUBSCRIBE AND DRIVE A SIXT+ CAR?

The minimum age to rent a vehicle is 21 and the driver must have a valid driver's license. At 21 years old you will need to have held a valid licence for at least one year and that will let you drive economy, mini and compact cars. As you get to ages 23, 25 and 30 and have held a licence for enough years larger cars such as SUVs and luxury cars become available. For a full list of vehicle groups please refer to our full guide. Please also note that there is an Underage Driver Fee per day for anyone younger than 25 years of age. This will just be added to the final price, once you have entered your personal data upon finalization of your booking.

HOW MANY SIXT+ SUBSCRIPTIONS CAN I HAVE?

You can only have one active SIXT+ subscription at a time. Of course, you can have an unlimited number of subscriptions one after the other if you prefer even more variety.

DO I HAVE A RIGHT OF WITHDRAWAL WHEN BUYING ONLINE?

Since this is a booking that is made using only means of distance communication (e.g. via a homepage, app, email, telephone, etc.) and outside of business premises, there is no right of withdrawal.

I am a corporate customer. Can I use SIXT+?

Yes you can, as long as you agree with the terms and conditions of booking a SIXT+ car subscription. Your corporate invoice address can be entered upon vehicle pickup.
