Is insurance included in my booking, and can I remove or reduce excess amounts?

IS PROTECTION INCLUDED IN MY RENTAL BOOKING?

You can find information about the included protection in the section Mileage & Protection while booking your rental vehicle. In this step, it is also possible to add your desired protection options.   

CAN I PURCHASE INSURANCE WHEN I RENT?

Within your SIXT+ subscription you can choose from many optional products that will provide benefits for different types of situations you might encounter. Details about the variety of protection options can be found here, and in the rental agreement terms and conditions that are provided when you rent.

CAN I USE MY OWN INSURANCE FOR THE RENTAL CAR?

Each policy is different, and it is best to contact your carrier to find out if there are exclusions and to ensure you are covered for the type of vehicle you are renting. It is also important that you consider what the cost would be out of pocket if you had damage and had to file a claim with your personal insurance. 

CAN I REDUCE OR REMOVE MY EXCESS AMOUNT DURING MY SUBSCRIPTION?

Unfortunately it is not possible to change your protection package in an ongoing subscription, as in case of damage it could not be identified whether the damage happened prior to or after change of the protection package. 

WHAT IS A LOSS DAMAGE WAIVER (LDW)?

Loss Damage Waiver removes the drivers responsibility to a part of the vehicle in case of damage or theft. 

Under the Damage Protection Programme you are only responsible for the damage and our reasonable administration fees, which arise when we deal with these matters. However, you still have to pay an amount up to the damage excess amount every time you damage the vehicle or any replacement vehicle and if any replacement vehicle is lost or stolen. If the accident is third party's fault, we will try and recover the cost of the repair to our vehicle from the other party. If we are successful, we will be able to refund all or part of your damage deposit at that time.

DOES THE PROTECTION COVER GLASS AND WINDSCREEN?

Glass and Windscreen is not covered by the inclusive Loss Damage waiver, we offer separate cover for Glass and Windscreen, however should Super Top Cover LDW be selected this would cover tyre and glass damages to a £0 excess.
