Maserati - the Italian for extraordinary

The Maserati brothers inherited their passion for speed from their father, with Carlos designing his first engine in Bologna at the age of 17. They founded this iconic Italian marque that was to go down in racing history in 1914. The company logo, designed by another brother, features Neptune's trident. Taken from a statue in Bologna it was seen as emblematic of the marque's strength and vigour while the red and blue Maserati colours were adopted from Bologna's flag. Taken over by the Orsi family in 1937, an Orsi Maserati sports car was the first Italian vehicle to win a prestigious racing title and with its presence at the first Formula 1 in 1950, a place in racing history was secured. Today Maserati has the distinction of being one of the largest luxury car manufacturers in the world.
