The Audi R8 Spyder: A Symphony of Performance and Control
The Audi R8 is a truly special vehicle that is designed, developed, and manufactured by Audi Sport GmbH, which is the performance division of Audi AG. It was designed to be all things, to all people - stunning to look at, wonderful to drive, fiercely fast, but the Audi R8 had a trick up its sleeve; it could be driven every single day. Whether you're going 30 MPH or 130 MPH it's controlled, comfortable, and composed. The Audi R8 Spyder takes it a step further by offering you open top motoring and the opportunity to listen to the heavenly soundtrack at the touch of a button.
The Audi R8 started life as the Audi LeMans Quattro, which is basically identical to what would become the production model of the R8. This was shown at the IAA held in Frankfurt in 2003. It featured a body made of aluminium and carbon fibre, a powerful V10 engine and magnetic ride shock absorbers to give it composure on all road surfaces and during performance driving.
The Audi R8 was the first car to feature full LED headlamps, a result of it being designed to be practical, as well as performance orientated. Add to that the famous Audi Quattro four wheel drive system and you have a car that's comfortable cruising in all weathers, offering sure footed handling and safety whether it's on dry tarmac, rainy road, or ice. There is also plenty of performance on offer too, with the standard R8 Spyder being fitted with a 5.2 litre V10 engine pushing out 533 horsepower.

The History of Audi Sport GmbH
Audi Sport GmbH is not to be confused with Audi AG. The latter is the parent company of the former, however they are separate entities. The company began life as quattro GmbH in October, 1983. Since its inception its sole priority has been the development and the manufacture of high performance Audi models, and though technically a separate company the models have never been sold directly to the public, but instead through Audi AG. They've historically specialised in low volume production of Audi's most performance inspired cars such as the R8 Spyder, as well as the RS4 and RS6 models, both Avant and luxury saloon.
