When hiring a car with Sixt, we offer you a selection of payment methods so you don't necessarily need a credit card to book your perfect rental car. Accordingly we would like to provide a clear explanation of how we calculate your deposit, when you can expect to be reimbursed for your deposit and more. Sixt accepts a wide range of payment methods to allow increased freedom and accessibility to our services.

What payment methods are accepted by Sixt rent a car in the UK

  • All major credit cards: Visa, Mastercard, Eurocard, American Express and Diner's Club.
  • All major debit cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Diner's Club.

What is NOT accepted as a form of payment?

  •  Cash is not accepted at any Sixt branch
  •  Visa Electron (debit card) is not accepted
  •  Pre-paid cards e.g. pre-paid Mastercard

Can I pay using a non-UK Debit Card?

Yes, we accept international debit cards.

Can I book and pay for a vehicle for someone else?

No, the Card holder who is paying for the booking has to be the main driver, as this will be stated on the Rental Agreement. Please refer to the pre-paid terms and conditions.

Can I pay for my Sixt rental in advance?

Yes, Sixt offers a pre-pay tariff as well as a flexible pay-on-arrival tariff. When paying in advance, the price is cheaper, but please be advised that fees may apply to cancelling or amending pre-paid bookings.

What if I want to cancel my reservation?

You can easily cancel or change your booking by visiting the MySixt Customer Portal or by calling our reservations team via +44 (0) 8444 99 33 99.

Deposits & Approvals

How much car rental deposit do I have to pay

  • For payment with Debit Cards: The minimum deposit of £300.00 plus the cost of the rental and all additional charges is required.The deposit amount is immediately debited from the cardholder's bank account and is held by us until the Rental Agreement is terminated and all rental charges are cleared.
  • For payment with Credit Cards: The minimum approval amount for credit cards is 300.00 GBP and is dependent on the vehicle group. The amount is not immediately debited but held on the cardholder's bank account until the final rental charge amount has been debited. When the vehicle is returned, the invoiced amount will be charged to the credit card provided, unless you present another form of payment.

What is the difference between a deposit and approval?

An approval is an amount held on your credit card. Minimum of £300 + rental charges and shows as a pending transaction on your credit card.

Deposits are taken from Debit cards and is minimum £300 along with the full rental cost and will be reimbursed following completion of the hire.

How long does it take for my deposit / approval to reach my account?

Please allow up to 10 working days for the funds to clear and become available in your account.

Can I pay for a reservation using a company credit card?

We only accept company credit cards if the card displays the name of the renter who is collecting the vehicle.

What do I need to provide for renting a luxury or special vehicle?

For luxury cars, payment must be made using a major credit card only. Debit cards are not accepted. These are car models that are not within the following groups: E***, C***, I***, S*** and F***.

Extraordinary cars in the group X*** require a credit card approval of 5000.00 GBP.
