Sheffield Train Station is to the south-east of the city while our Castlegate branch is located under the Travelodge Hotel in the city centre. Both have easy access to local tram and bus routes. If you are arriving by plane it takes just thirty minutes to reach Sheffield by shuttle bus from Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

As in most large UK cities, Sheffield's roads can get very busy especially during peak hours while its one-way systems and bus lanes can be confusing for visitors. Using your Sat Nav, however, will help you reach your destination easily.

Sheffield has plenty of parking for visitors with metered street parking and zones as well as multi-storey car parks and eight Park and Ride locations.

Sheffield truly is a city that has something for everybody from culture to cuisine and sports to shopping all interspersed with green spaces. It is said that Sheffield has three trees to every resident with part of the city sitting within the Peak District National Park. As Sheffield is so large it is worth taking a drive around to get your bearings and see what the different districts have to offer before parking and exploring the pedestrianised city centre. An unusual feature of the city centre is the Winter Garden which lies next to the Millennium Galleries. A stunning glass and timber conservatory is home to displays of exotic plants from around the world while a coffee bar makes the garden an ideal mid-morning stop-off. Then visit Victoria Quays, a busy canal basin full of colourful narrow boats and the National Emergency Services Museum. This offers something a little different and is always a hit with younger visitors.

Sixt Tip - Football!

Sixt Tip - Football!

Sheffield is passionate about its sport, earning the honour of being the United Kingdom's National City of Sport. Every year the Snooker World Championships are held here and it is home to top-flight rugby, basketball, hockey and speedway teams. The real passion that runs through the city, however, is football. The city splits neatly in half between its two teams, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United. Both Bramall Lane and Hillsborough stadiums offer fascinating behind the scenes tours. If you would rather shop for souvenirs than talk football head to the Meadowhall Centre. Just 3 miles North East of the city it was the largest shopping centre in the country when it was built and still ranks in the top eight.

The wealth of Sheffield was built on mining, metallurgy and steel making, particularly the manufacture of cutlery. Forgemasters, founded in 1805, is still an important employer and the sole remaining independent steelworks in the world. It has a global reputation for manufacturing the most complex of steel forgings and castings. Fast-growing economic sectors in the city today include transport, communications, information technology and finance as well as tourism. There are several conference and exhibition venues across the city. The Crucible Theatre is one of the largest, capable of hosting sports events, conferences, trade shows and performances.

Summer in Sheffield

In the heart of England Sheffield is the city that has more to offer during summer months than one might think. One of its biggest draws for outdoor lovers is its proximity to the Peak District, rolling hills, mountains, forests and lakes that go on as far as the eye can see. Although there is good transport in the Peak District consider bringing a 4X4 so you can explore some of the harder places to get to all in your own time. There’s a lot of history in Sheffield including Chatsworth House, an incredible estate in the heart of the national park that’s filled with gardens, exhibitions and more, a perfect day trip on a sunny day. Keep in mind the bank holiday weekend at the end of August!
