The city is located in northern Thailand, in the province of the same name. Surrounded by countryside, it is easy to go for a drive and navigate through small villages. The ancient city walls date back to 1296 and some sections of wall can still be seen today, the square shaped moat remains in place and helps to get your bearings when driving in the city. Within the old city there are 30 temples, spend a relaxing day driving around to find them and take in the ornate architecture. Doi Suthep mountain looms over the city centre and makes for a wonderful day trip, there is a view point around half way up, several waterfalls and a magnificent temple at the top. The cooler temperatures here ensure a more comfortable stay than in other balmy parts of Thailand.
