Traffic Information

Traffic Information

As Santorini is a very small island, driving in the area is fairly straightforward. When departing from Santorini Airport or Fira town centre, most destinations are only around 30 minutes' drive away. When leaving the airport, there are no major highways but a number of small roads that lead directly to Fira and other towns and villages in the area. The beach resort of Monolithos is less than 5 minutes' drive from the airport, and most of the beach resorts in the north and south are also within easy reach. Traffic is not generally a problem on the island, but it can get congested around Fira.

Santorini is a small Greek island that is known for its picturesque white and blue houses, many of which are built high up onto the seaside cliffs. The island is also known for its delicious cuisine, with traditional Greek dishes that use locally grown and produced ingredients such as olives, feta cheese, yoghurt and mint. Santorini is primarily a tourist destination, with hundreds of visitors arriving by plane and ferry every day, with the option to stay at several luxury 5-star resorts. The town of Fira is the busiest area on the island and is home to plenty of tourist attractions such as museums, galleries, and historic churches. Outside of the town, Santorini's natural wonders are well worth a visit. Highlights include beautiful beaches, volcanic rock formations, caves, and lagoons.
