Make an impact with the BMW i8
The BMW i8 is a luxury sports car with all the striking good looks and unbelievable power of a one-of-a-kind supercar. It has a turbocharged three-cylinder engine that can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 4.6 seconds, all hidden within an exceptionally beautiful body. It's a car with a conscience too- it's a hybrid model that plugs in for electrical charging. With a range of high-tech extras to make your journey run smoothly, the BMW i8 has to be seen to be believed.
The BMW i8 is often a top choice for luxury car hire, as it's an exciting new model that is part of 'Project i', a new BMW subsidiary of plug-in electric vehicles. Only the second model in the range, it was preceded by the i3 which was released in 2013 after its initial unveiling at the 2009 International Motor Show in Germany. The BMW i8 was revealed at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and moved away from the simple hatchback of the i3 to become an imposing and remarkable luxury vehicle.
From the soft-top roof to the dihedral doors, everything about the BMW i8 screams luxury. It's alloy wheels are light and responsive and it doesn't scrimp on energy efficiency, with CO2 emissions of up to 46g/km. Inside, you can stay connected with various apps that are controlled via the touchscreen panel, and built-in GPS makes maps a thing of the past.

BMW: an automobile giant
BMW was founded as an aircraft company in 1916 when three German manufacturers came together to form Bayerische Motoren Werke, shortened to BMW. The company began to produce cars in 1928, with the BMW 3/15. They developed a car with a straight-six engine, the BMW 303, before expanding their range during the 1960s and 70s. During the 80s and 90s, BMW released several striking new sports cars such as the Z3 roadster, cementing their place as a giant in the industry. From luxury cars that suit families to compact soft-tops beloved by executives, BMW has won a legion of fans. They also produce cars for the racing industry, creating Formula 1 cars such as the 2016 BMW M4 DTM and the 2016 BMW M6 GT3 which was designed for the Australian GT.
