There are many famous museums in London. These are perfect if you have niche interests or want to do something a little different. We\u00a0can\u2019t promise any\u00a0crowds but\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0also a good chance to avoid as many tourists with these\u00a0unique\u00a0suggestions. Here are just a few of the quirkiest museums in London.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sherlock Holmes Museum <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you\u00a0have a passion or even an interest in London\u2019s most famous fictional detective, look no further. Located at the character\u2019s address, 221B Baker Street, this fun little museum takes you to\u00a0a world\u00a0of Sherlock.\u00a0Explore Sir Arthur Conan Doyle\u2019s stories and the time they were written. The four-storey\u00a0townhouse is straight out of the Victorian era\u00a0and has been set up to mirror the dwellings of Holmes and Watson. It also houses\u00a0possibly the\u00a0best shop for anything\u00a0Sherlock\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0likely to find anywhere else in the world.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Museum of Brands <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Be amazed by\u00a0some of the most iconic labels,\u00a0designs\u00a0and illustrations across the spectrum of consumer items.\u00a0Nostalgia will hit\u00a0hard\u00a0and interests will peak as you step into this charming little museum in\u00a0Notting\u00a0Hill. With over 12,000 items spanning centuries, you can see London and the UK come to life through its history of products. There are vintage toys, magazines, foods and more from companies\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0sure to recognize and some you may not have heard of. There\u00a0are\u00a0regular\u00a0specialised\u00a0exhibitions focusing on anything from old cartoons to modern beers so be sure to see\u00a0what\u2019s\u00a0on.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Old Operating Theatre <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you have an interest in the history of medicine and a thrill for the bizarre take\u00a0a\u00a0stop in the Old Operating Theatre. Located in SE1 on St Thomas Street this\u00a0almost frightening relic is housed in the attic of the old St Thomas Hospital. It was once used in Victorian times as an operating room. It has raised seating so students could\u00a0witness\u00a0and study the newly discovered surgical\u00a0practices. The old timber construct is the oldest surviving surgical theatre of its kind in Europe. Visitors can learn about its history, the medicine used and\u00a0shop around its charming\u00a0apothecary\u00a0shop.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

London Sewing Machine Museum <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This museum is not in central London but\u00a0rather Tooting. Coming across it you might even think\u00a0you\u2019ve\u00a0been given the wrong directions. If you look on the outside it is a nondescript warehouse\u00a0rather far\u00a0out in Southwest London, inside you are transported back in time. It\u00a0is\u00a0more accurately\u00a0the owner\u2019s, Ray Rushton,\u00a0personal collection of\u00a0sewing machines. The earliest\u00a0dates to\u00a01865 and was a personal gift to the daughter of Queen Victoria. As you go through the collection there are small descriptions of the machines, which are all in working order. Visitors have come back positively simply by the amazing designs\u00a0and layout of the collection. People are only allowed in once a month so be sure to plan accordingly.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cartoon Museum  <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For those who love the timeless art of drawing and\u00a0animation,\u00a0be sure to stop by The Cartoon Museum. Dive into the rich history of British cartoons and the nation\u2019s rich history with comics. From wartime posters, newspapers,\u00a0fashion,\u00a0political satire all the way to modern films and comic books there is a lot to see.\u00a0Exhibitions are regular and always offer something exciting for those who love the visual format. It’s on Wells Street so can easily be fit into a day out in central.\u00a0Watch your wallets as you leave as they have an exceptional gift shop filled with illustrations to pick up.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
