{"id":2180,"date":"2020-04-03T12:21:00","date_gmt":"2020-04-03T12:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uk.sx-magazine-wp.sixt.io\/magazine\/?p=2180"},"modified":"2025-07-17T16:56:35","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T16:56:35","slug":"driving-tips-faroe-islands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sixt.co.uk\/magazine\/tips\/driving-tips-faroe-islands\/","title":{"rendered":"Driving in Faroe Islands"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rules &amp; Regulations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Please read through the following guide before you start your road trip in the Faroe Islands.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Drive on the right-hand side<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don\u2019t drink and drive, the permitted blood alcohol level limit is 0.05%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The use of seat belts is compulsory for all occupants of the vehicle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A child safety seat is required for children under 4 years old.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Children under 12 years must occupy the rear seats.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Headlights must be used at all times.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Modern tunnels have two lanes, but old ones have only one lane. There are turnouts in the old tunnels every 100 metres. Turnouts are on the right-hand side of the tunnels, and a driver who is on the right has to give way to oncoming traffic. Please watch out for sheep on the road as this is quite common. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A sub-sea tunnel connects the island of V\u00e1gar with Streymoy and Bor\u00f0oy to Eysturoy. These are toll tunnels. Drivers should always pay attention to the heights and widths of the old tunnels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please watch out for sheep on the road as this is quite common.<br>Using studded tyres is only allowed between October 15th and May 1st<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parking in the towns of Klaksv\u00edk, T\u00f3rshavn, Runav\u00edk and the Airport is restricted.
