With upcoming changes to the UK driving licence system, Sixt rent a car has issued the following information to customers to ensure the vehicle pick-up process remains fast and straight forward.
From 8th June 2015 the DVLA will abolish the paper counterpart of the UK driving licence. From that date onwards the information about a qualified drivers history including any endorsements will only be available directly from the DVLA.
Sixt have therefore introduced a new initiative for customers to minimise any impact on their rental experience when renting in the UK.
Driver’s Licence Changes
As a part of the changes the DVLA has introduced a new web-based service allowing users to receive a code which can be used by car hire companies to view the individuals driving record.
The new service is available from the DVLA website, the user simply needs to enter their driving license number, National Insurance number and home Postcode. Once entered the user can access the ‘Share your licence information’ option where a code can be created giving the customer a PDF document containing their code (valid for 21 days) and driving record.
This document should be presented by the customer, either printed or on a mobile or tablet, when collecting their vehicle.
Using the code, Sixt will then be able to verify the details via the DVLA’s new ‘Share Driving Licence’ service.
In order to ensure a smooth process for all customers Sixt will issue a reminder on the reservation confirmation and pre-arrival emails.
Customers can contact our customer service hotline on 0844 499 3399 or via email at help-uk@sixt.com where we will be happy to issue any further assistance on the new procedure.
