As of 8 June 2015, the paper counterpart to the UK photocard driving licence is no longer valid or issued by DVLA. This counterpart was initially introduced to display specific driving licence details that could not fit on the photocard, such as vehicle categories you are entitled to drive or any endorsement/penalty points. When you now go to pick up your Sixt car hire, you need to provide us with a unique code issued by DVLA which you can find more about below.
If you have a photocard driving licence, destroy the paper counterpart as it is now invalid. However, if you were issued your driving licence before 1998 and therefore have just a paper licence, keep this safe as it is still valid.
Now that the paper counterpart of your driver's licence has been abolished, everything is done digitally. Despite these new changes, Sixt makes it easy for you to hire a car but the process has changed slightly. See the steps below to find out your unique code before picking up your Sixt hire vehicle. To make the process smoother, we will remind you to find this information during the booking and payment process.
