  • Guildford: the largest city in Surrey, has medieval Guildford Castle and many other historical Saxon sites. The ancient church of St Mary’s is another historical site, and if you’re looking for live shows, there’s the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre. 
  • Woking: this town also offers plenty of historical sites, like the Woking Palace ruins, dating back to the 13th century. It’s also has a lot of public art with dozens of sculptures dotting the streets, some of them celebrating the town’s renown as the place where H.G. Wells wrote "War of the Worlds". It has a modern shopping precinct, several theatres and an arts and heritage centre. 
  • Ewell: a smallish village that dates back to the Bronze Age, visit Ewell for its tranquil parks and ancient monuments. It also has a strong architectural heritage, as embodied in buildings like the neo-Gothic Parish Church of Saint Mary the Virgin. You can also go to Bourne Hall with its ponds and waterwheel.
