Other highlights include the traditional seaside town of Great Yarmouth, and the market town of Kings Lynn, home to a variety of small independent shops.

The Norfolk Broads

The Norfolk Broads are only a short drive from Norwich city centre. Just take the A47 to the west, and the stunning scenery of the broads will start to appear in as little as half an hour. This large area of lakes, wetlands, forests are interspersed with lovely little villages and friendly pubs, the ideal place for a rest after a long day walking in the countryside.

The Norfolk Broads may look serene and peaceful, but they are also a haven for sports-lovers. Sailing and windsurfing are both popular here, particularly in Whitlingham Country Park. Cycling, boat tours, and trekking are also great activities to do in the county.

The Norfolk Coast

Away from the main port towns, there are many other quieter and less-discovered parts of the Norfolk coast. Wells-next-the-Sea is a must-see, to take in the traditional fishing boats that line the seafront. It has a huge beach with great expanses of sand, as well as lots of cute colourful beach huts, some of which have been converted into miniature living rooms complete with comfy chairs.

Important Cities

Norfolk is the largest metropolitan area (and only city) in Norfolk. But there is plenty see in the smaller towns too, from Kings Lynn to Great Yarmouth.

Norwich

Norwich is the industrial, financial, and cultural hub of Norfolk. It was one of the most important cities in the Middle Ages, and its historic background echoes through its ancient cobbled streets. Norwich Cathedral is one of the most popular attractions in the city, with its outstanding gothic architecture. Make sure to walk the sunny cloisters, and if you can, try to catch a performance of the resident choir. Norwich is the industrial, financial, and cultural hub of Norfolk. Kings Lynn

Kings Lynn is a pretty town that is only 44 miles west of Norwich. When you visit, try to catch a play at one of the town's two theatres, The Westacre and The Corn Exchange. For shopaholics, there are plenty of quirky souvenir shops for a memento of your holiday.

Great Yarmouth

Great Yarmouth is a textbook example of a traditional British seaside town. Think fish and chips, amusement arcades, seagulls and ice cream. The town has two piers, ideal spots for a gentle promenade, and a beach that is popular with families. There are many historic attractions too, from the 12th century Minster to the 13th century marketplace, which is one of the largest marketplaces in England.

Climate, Cuisine, and Children

Climate and Temperatures

Visitors to Norfolk will experience the traditional British climate. Summer can be filled with lovely sunny days and temperatures of around 20-25 degrees; but in the UK that's never guaranteed! Norfolk experiences rainfall throughout the year, with cold temperatures of around 0-10 degrees in winter and milder weather from March-October.

The Norfolk Cuisine

Norfolk is the perfect place to try a traditional British Sunday roast, with added roast potatoes. It is also home to lots of delicious fresh seafood, such as mussels and cockles.

Norfolk with Children

Norfolk is very kid-friendly. Most attractions offer discount rates for children and families, and the county's beaches are clean with many handy facilities such as baby changing rooms. Dinosaur Park in Lenwade is thrilling for budding palaeontologists.
