Drive in Munich with Sixt

York is a prosperous and ancient cathedral city in the north of England, and one of the best examples in the United Kingdom of a walled city. It was founded by the Romans over two thousand years ago and became one of the most important cities in Roman Britain as the capital of the province Britannia Inferio, consequently it enjoys a rich heritage with beautiful sites to explore. One of York's oldest attractions is the Roman bathhouse, Eboracum Legion Bathhouse, which has a Roman period bathhouse in the cellar and provides an insight into ancient York including Roman military life and hygiene. Equally well known is York's fascinating Viking history, the city was captured by the Vikings in 866 and became a major river port and part of the European Viking trading routes. The Jorvik Viking Centre is one of York's most popular attractions and features Viking long boats and a reconstruction of Viking streets. The prominent York Minster which dominates the city skyline dates back to before the Vikings although was rebuilt numerous times to become the imposing structure it is today. The Minster is the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe and it is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the second-highest office of the Church of England. It is open to the public for visits and services, with a beautiful Evensong service. Its Great East Window, containing the largest area of medieval stained glass in the world, is a sight to behold. There are several car parks in the city centre within walking distance of the Minster, including the Shambles Q-Park Car Park where one of the Sixt car hire branches is located. For a fun day out for adults, a few miles from the centre is the city's racecourse, a major horseracing venue whose meetings attract thousands of spectators. Families with children can enjoy the Yorks Chocolate Story which features a factory tour, tasting and chocolate making zone!
