  • 22.04.2012- Revolution on the national airmarket!

    Revolution on the national market in air services continues. From 1st of July we fly daily and direct by plane from Krakow to Lodz and Bydgoszcz.

    - End of the black hole in the market for connections within the country. In a few days you will be able to book tickets for flights from Krakow to Lodz and Krakow to Bydgoszcz - was announced on Wednesday morning at a conference at the airport in Gdansk by Jaroslaw Frankowski, managing director of airline OLT Express, recently doing sensation in the Polish sky. OLT will fly on these routes every day, and three times a week twice a day.

    When to Lodz and when to Bydgoszcz?

    Flights connecting Krakow Balice with Szwederow of Bydgoszcz will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays once a day (in the middle of the day). On Tuesdays and Thursdays, both in the morning and evening. "The Cake" of connection will be supplement by the weekend flights with the morning starts on Saturday and evening on Sunday. A similar schedule will apply on the connection to Lodz, except that the connections twice a day will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and once a day in the middle of the day we fly by Krakow-Lodz route on the other weekdays.

    Or maybe a train?

    Over the years, the journey from Krakow to Lodz by train was quite an experience. The train schedule shows three direct trains a day (two for Widzew, one to Lodz Kaliska), and the running time is ... nearly five hours. Even worse with railway conection to Bydgoszcz: two trains per day, ten hours of travel, and additionally the afternoon train at a snails pace arrives in Bydgoszcz at... 3.29 in the morning!

    - There is a huge demand for flights to us both from the Lodz region, and Kuyavian-Pomeranian. According to studies, most passengers departing from Bydgoszcz, and transferring via Warsaw gives Krakow as a destination - says Jan Pamula, president of the Krakow Balice port.

    Intense competition makes the passengers happy

    OLT's strong entry is a next scene of the struggle for national passenger in recent weeks. In the immediate battle clash now offers from:
    OLT Express (most connections several times a day between Polish cities, including flights 180-places Airbuses at the prices from 99 zlotych up),

  • 16.04.2012- Mysteries Paschalia Festival 2012

    Eight concerts, five thousand music lovers from Poland, Germany, France, Norway, USA, UK and Austria, 150 Polish and foreign journalists, five live broadcasts in the second Polish Radio - a festival of the Mysteries Paschalia.

    This is one of the most important events dedicated to old music in Europe. The festival has earned this name consistently building an image of a coherent and thoughtful idea and a great program. Its keynote is the relationship of music to the period of Holy Week and Easter.

    This time inspired, full of elation music by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (oratorio "La Fenice sul Rogo") was presented by adored Fabio Biondi and his Europa Galante.

    As every year in St. Catherinas church the great musical fresco was painted by Catalan viola da gamba master Jordi Savall with teams Hesperion XXI and La Capella Reial de Catalunya. Capital was also a live performance of La Venexiana and final evening of the Russian soprano Yulia Lezhnev that the media came to know as "the new Maria Callas." After this year's edition in memory will remain primarily a concert of Italian band Bizantina Accademia under the direction of Ottavio Dantone, with the choir Capella Cracoviensis and fantastic group of singers. Their all-star show of the oratorio "Juditha Triumphans" by Antonio Vivaldi resembled somewhat vocal duel. All the artists came out of it victorious, though unsurpassed in vocal virtuosity was a mezzo-soprano Vivica Genaux.

    A big event was also a creation of Mark Minkowski and his band Les Musiciens du Louvre Grenoble. Minkowski is the world known master of old interpretations, with his wise and balanced vision of the great forms. Another proof of this he gave this year, ending a three-year cycle of Bach (in recent years has presented the Passion according to St. John and Mass in B minor of the Leipzig cantor), with such a calm and balanced, though expressive performance of the Passion according to Saint.     Festival closing in eight concerts was attended by five thousand music lovers from Poland, Germany, France, Norway, USA, UK and Austria. But the audience was probably about ten thousand more, for five concerts was broadcasted live program 2 of Polish Radio. Others have been recorded and will be retransmitted. The festival also attended 150 Polish and foreign journalists. Foreign visit has brought positive results in the first days. Warm relation from Krakow wrote Regine Muller with German daily Tageszeitung: "In Germany, festivals and the accompanying cultural events are eagerly criticized, and not without reason. It is surprising that in this regard the highly subsidized, allegedly at risk of the collapse of the culture and blessed with influential German state sponsors, we are being outdone by our Polish neighbors. (...) Walking through a restored Old Town, one is awed to see a lots of posters informing about concerts and theater performances. the Philharmonic concerts are held daily, and the festival office has busy throughout the year - is held annually for more than 20 festivals, including all kinds of festivals, theater, film and music. Mysteries Paschalia festival have just started - a festival of early music, which traditionally takes place during Holy Week. " Reportage from Krakow already was made by the German radio station WDR third. So again, a great success can be announced a great success.

  • 05.04.2012- New Temporary VIP Terminal in Krakow-Balice Airport

    Temporary VIP airport terminal for the players and activists, night train, restrictions on charter aircraft. Krakow Balice Airport learned at the last moment that will be one of the main airports of Euro 2012. The preparation had a few weeks.

    Balice advancement is the result of accommodation of three major national teams in Krakow. We already know when two of them are comming. The Italians will be officially welcomed at the airport before noon on 5 June, and the English team one day later at 14:10. The Dutch did not provide the time and date of arrival. What is known is that the arrival of each team will be solemnly celebrated - red carpet, flowers, official delegations, children from schools.

    - UEFA also requires of us, to national teams and their accompanying persons had a separate, privileged path to admission and VIP lounge available exclusively at their disposal. However, since we have many passengers of business class in Krakow every day so, we decided to issue an additional temporary VIP terminal, only for the players and officials. It will accommodate approximately 70-80 people. Its guests will be transported by special UEFA buses from airplanes - says Monika Pabisek from Krakow Airport PR department.

    The new terminal is a luxury pavilion and a reminds the one that was build in Wroclaw airport on the occasion of the Polish presidency of the EU.

    Teams will arrive in Krakow with their own aircrafts - they will use them also to travel to matches. Following the players additional charter flights with activists, families and supporters are expected. Also private planes belonging to the businessmen, also from Russia and Ukraine. Many of them will want to land in Krakow, because in the cities where matches will be played there may be run out of places. Additional charter flights of tourists and activists, who lived at the time the Euro in other Polish cities, will want to visit Krakow in the breaks between matches.

    From the last summer Krakow Airport open many new connections. Traditionally, this period also increased the number of charter flights ordered by the travel agents. Will the Euro paralyze traffic at Krakow airport? - The priority will be given to cruise connections, then the players' aircrafts. All other charter flights will have three days in advance to receive permission from the port Duty Officer to land - says Monika Pabisek. She adds: - We also giving attention to the fact that many of the charters will land at night, we are considering special night train connection to the city center. Additionaly we prepare a special parking lot for buses.


    Customs clearance of players departing for the matches to Ukraine (does not apply the Schengen) will most likely take place in buses shuttling them to the aircraft. Most probably will also be simplified.

    During Euro 2012 there will be five major airports in Poland. Four of them (in the cities that organize matches) have long been aware of the need to prepare for special tasks. Balice learned of his promotion a month ago, so the operational plan had to be created very fast. That had to include, among others establishment of air traffic services, the division between services, the schedule of places on the apron and even refueling procedures or operation of commercial zones in the terminal. The document was ready in mid-March. Port authorities are still waiting for approval of Euro 2012 Poland, which is to finance the related investments.

    To meet the new demands, special exercises are planned for april 16 in Balice for border guards. Tested will cover customs of the spectators, as well stress will be put on handling uexpected events. At the time of Euro magistrate promised to send to the port few dozens of volunteers who have volunteered to help the city. For the duration of the championships airport will be decorated in the colors of UEFA. Due to the Euro Hotel construction at the airport was halted.

  • 13.03.2012- Krakow's Jewish district - Kazimierz

    Krakow's Kazimierz is a special place, because it has been shaped by the close neighbourhood of Christianity and Judaism lasting for several centuries. The Jews came to Kazimierz in the 2nd half of the 14th century, and till the first years of the 19th century they had lived there in the separate "Jewish town" whose limits largely followed today's Miodowa, Sw. Wawrzynca, Waska, Jozefa and Bozego Ciala Streets. It was an autonomous enclave governed by rabbis and elected elders that recognised only the king's supremacy held on his behalf by the Krakow voivode.

    Only in the course of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century the Jews gradually dominated the entire Kazimierz, as well as the neighbouring district of Stradom. In the 2nd half of the 19th century the Jews took a large part in the expansion of the district as investors, construction entrepreneurs and architects. Their social and economic activity was fully triggered by granting them equal civic rights in 1867. The culturally assimilated Jewish intelligentsia more and more often decided to live outside of Kazimierz.

    Before the outbreak of the Second World War Krakow was inhabited by over 64,000 Jews, that is, about 25% of its entire population. Till 1939 the Jews had created a well-developed social infrastructure aiming at the fulfilment of interests and aspirations of the minority. It was largely formed in Kazimierz which was a notably Jewish district of Krakow and the natural social base for the majority of Jewish organisations and institutions till the end of the inter-war period. It was the place of operation of political parties of all shades representing the Jewish population in the Polish Parliament, educational, charity, cultural, artistic and sports organisations. Kazimierz concentrated the religious life of the Krakow Jews. They prayed in six big Orthodox synagogues (Old, Remuh, High, Issac's, Popper's and Kupa) and the progressive synagogue of Tempel at Podbrzezie that were supported by the Commune, and in many prayer houses belonging to various religious associations and private persons.

    The broad network of railway connections enables fast and comfortable travels by train: you can reach Warsaw in 2.5 hours and Gdansk in 6 hours. In a couple of hours you can travel to Vienna, Prague, Bratislava, Berlin and Budapest.

    The successively modernised network of coach connections ensures good transportation within the region to Polish cities and towns, as well as largest cities outside of the country.

    Every year Kraków hosts over 100 festivals, including about 50 festivals of international importance, such as the Jewish Culture Festival (since 1990), Krakowskie Zaduszki Jazzowe (Cracow Jazz All Souls' Day Festival, since 1954), Kraków Film Festival (since 1961), Music in the Old Kraków International Festival (since 1975), International Print Triennial held in Kraków (since 1966), and Festival of Street Theatres (since 1988).

    Every year new projects emerge like Sacrum Profanum (since 2003), Misteria Paschalia Festival (since 2004), Festival of Polish Music (2005) presenting the works of Polish music in world's greatest performances, and the Festival of Nations/ Dedications (2002) that in many cases make use of untypical city spaces and render them with new meanings.

    A huge popularity is enjoyed by new cyclical events like the Kraków Nights. In 2007 the Theatre Night was organised for the first time modelled after the idea of the Museum Night hugely popular in Europe. On a June night theatrical projects are presented not only in indoor theatrical stages but also on specially prepared open-air stages in the open space to the audience of over 40,000 spectators every year. In 2008 the Sacral Night was organised for the first time, while the Poetry Night had its inauguration in 2009.

    Kraków, is the second largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland. Situated by the Vistula River in the Lesser Poland region, the city dates back to the 7th century. Kraków has traditionally beenone of the leading centres of Polish academic, cultural, and artistic life and is one of Poland's most important economic hubs. It was the capital of Poland from 1038 to 1596.

    Kraków isunofficialy called the cultural capital of Poland and was named The European Capital of Culture for the year 2000 by the European Union. It is a major attraction for both local and internationaltourists, attracting seven million visitors a year. Major landmarks include the Main Market Square with St. Mary's Basilica and the Cloth Halls, Wawel Castle, National Art Museum,

    Kraków has 28 museums and public art galleries. Among them are the main branchof Poland's National Museum and the Czartoryski Museum, the latter featuring works by Leonardo da Vinci and Rembrandt.

    Kraków is one of Poland's most important economic centers. Followingthe collapse of communism, the private sector has been growing steadily.     New connection Krakow-Lwow

    Krakow Airport launched a new air connection with Lwow in Ukraine this Wednesday. Eurolot serves this route four times a week with new Bombardier aircrafts. Eurolot CEO, Mr Mariusz Dabrowski states, cruises were planned to help fans get to Ukraine during EURO 2012 Championship. "We are happy to provide comfortable and reasonably priced service for polish and ukrainian tourists" he said.
    The cheapest tickets cost 99 zl, theres 50% discount for youth under 18 years old and babys up to 2, fly for free.

    XII Science Festival in Krakow

    Demonstrations of scientific experiments, lectures, meetings, exhibitions, performances and concerts are included in the XII Science Festival in Krakow, from 9 to 12 May. The motto of this year edition is "The Theory-Learning-Experience '.

    This time, the patron of the event is the inventor of the kerosene lamp Jan Jozef Ignacy Lukasiewicz. The main coordinator of the festival is once again, University of Agriculture in Krakow.

    A spokeswoman of festival Izabella Majewska says that, science festival is designed for children, adolescents and adults. Aims to present an attractive and accessible way of scientific achievements Krakow universities, institutes of Sciences, and student culture.

    The main festival events are planned on Market Square. Scientists and students from the university of Krakow will be there to present an interesting experiences and achievements of its branches.

    The program includes simple experiments, experiments methods or measurements. Planned is also a free screening of cinema films about Ignacy Lukasiewicz. There will be also posibillity to visit for free some museums, institutes, or take part in workshops.

    During the festival, on the southern facade of the Sukiennic Hall will be light and sound show.

    The origins of the Science Festival in Krakow dates back to 2000. The idea of organizing this event was born during the 600th anniversary of the renewal of the Jagiellonian University. Initially the festival was intended only to promote scientific, educational and cultural UJ, but the last 10 years co-organizators were also other Krakow universities, scientific institutions and individual consular. The project include the invited institutions: museums, theaters, foreign cultural institutes.

    First plane from Moscow landed in Krakow

    New, direct connections to Moscow were launched last Thursday from Krakow Airport. Service is operated by russian national carrier Aeroflot.

    -Krakows companies perform lot of investments and business in Russia, new connection will be very helpful for them. Aeroflot offers great opportunities for long-haul flights to several continents - stated Jan Pamula, airport CEO.

    Moscow is the second eastern capital, connected directly with Krakow. Since March last year, a combination Krakow - Kiev supports Ukrainian airline Aerosvit.

    Krakow Airport is the second largest airport in Poland. During summer season, offers regular connections and charter flights to nearly 90 airports in 28 countries with 10 traditional and 9 low-cost airlines.

    New rector of the Jagiellonian University

    Surgeon Prof. Wojciech Nowak has been elected rector of the oldest Polish university, the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. He will replace the prof. Karol Musiol.

    Prof. Wojciech Nowak won 106 electoral votes. His competitor - prof. Szczepan Bilinski, Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations at the Jagiellonian University - 58 votes.

    As said prof. Nowak at a meeting of candidates for the office of the rector, twenty-first century poses new challenges. University must be innovative, attractive and competitive. - I am absolutely convinced that we can be, the leader not only in Poland but also in Europe - he said.

    Prof. Nowak reminded that his whole life is linked to the Cracow University. Currently he is the vice-rector of the Jagiellonian University Medical College, and previously he was Deputy Dean and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. He is also director of III Department of General Surgery, a member of the Examination Board in General Surgery at the European Board of Surgery, President of the European Society of Surgery. Prof. Nowak is the 305th rector of the Jagiellonian University.

    Better train connection Krakow-Wieliczka

    During the EURO2012 we will be able to travel by train from Krakow to the Wieliczka (famous of its Salt Mine). Modernization of the railway on the route enters the final phase. Stations, viaducts and rail network are rebuilt and renovated. After the upgrade high-speed train modeled on a Krakow - Balice connection, is to be launched.

    "Trains are expected to run every 20 minutes and be an alternative to road transport" - says the mayor of Wieliczka Arthur Koziol. "This is a historic moment, when it comes to rail. Once it was said that the railway in Wieliczka is not needed, now I am convinced that no one will eliminate it. The high standard will encourage to use the train. "

    Upgrading the line Krakow - Wieliczka, is mostly financed by the European Union. The trains are to start already on 29 April. Renovation of the railway line is part of preparations for the European Championship. The national representation of Italy will be living in Wieliczka during the tournament.

    Apocalyptica at Juwenalia in Krakow

    Apocalyptica - world-famous band from Finland - will be the star of Czyzynalia (Krakows Juwenalia), which will take place on 11th and 12th of May on the runway at the Polish Aviation Museum.

    Apart from the legendary band at the festival will play Polish stars - Hey, Dzem, KSU and Maciej Malenczuk with Psychodancing. There will be also a violinist Michal Jelonek and his team, who in his work, like Apocaliptyca, combines elements of metal and classical music.

    Participants will trail three kilometers from the gate with the inscription "Arbeit macht frei" in the former German camp Auschwitz. Participants of the march will go into Auschwitz II - Birkenau, where the main celebrations will be held.

    The first march was attended by approximately 1500 Jews. Since 1996, the Living Marches are held annually. The largest of the previous marches took place in 2005, on 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Attended by about 20 thousand people. They led him prime ministers: Polish - Marek Belka and Israel - Ariel Sharon. The ceremony was attended by 50 countries, including the Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany and Nobel Prize winner Elie Wiesel.

    Cracovia Marathon just around the corner

    Danish football fans will stay in Krakow on Euro2012

    Danish football fans have decided that the main camp of the European football championship (June 8 - July 1) they will organize in Krakow, from where they will travel to the matches. They also announced that they will not attend the match in Kharkiv.

    Denmark will play three group matches in Ukraine: with the Netherlands in Kharkov, June 9th, and on June 13th with Portugal and 17th June with Germany in Lviv.

    The first confirmed performers of Coke Live Festival

    The Killers, Placebo and The Roots are the first confirmed stars of Cracow Coke Live Music Festival. This year the festival music will sound at the airport in Czyzyny on 11 and 12 August.

    Although to the festival are still four months the agency Alter Art announced the names of three bands that will be headliners of Coke Live. Another contractor will be disclosed soon.

    This is the seventh Edition of the festival, which is permanently inscribed in Polish and European summer festival calendar. For six years on stage CLMF could admire the world's best electronic , hip-hop and rock music: 50 Cent, Interpol, Rihanna, Faithless, Muse, Chemical Brothers, Kanye West and many others.

    New Flights Krakow-Moscow

    First flight to Moscow from Krakow Airport is scheduled on Apr. 26th.     Euro 2012 Fan Zone in Krakow

    From 6th of June to the end of the championship, at Blonie Park will function EURO 2012 Fan Zone. Area can accommodate up to 30 thousand people. The site is located between the two stadiums, where will practice teams playing for the championship. This, according to the the City Council of Krakow, makes it the best possible location for the Fan Zone.

    The leading theme will be "multiculturalism" (Multiculturality). Fans will find there a great entertainment program with countries of origin of the sponsors of Euro 2012, and stationed in Krakow teams. In a specially-prepared sectors fans will be able to play in the climate of the country, and with big television screens will be able to experience the excitement in the sport during the matches.

    Everybody will find something interesting. The invitation is addressed to everyone - men, women, youth and children.     Three national teams in Krakow on Euro2012

    Two more companies will invest in the Krakow SEZ

    Krakow Technology Park, managing the local Special Economic Zone issued two more permits to conduct business in its territory. Permits will get Protech which produces boilers and Woodward Poland from the energy industry.

    Protech has committed to invest more than 8 million zl, and to hire at least 10 employees.

    Company Woodward Poland will invest 18 mln zl and increase employment by at least 10 employees.

    - Without a doubt, this indicates that companies see big benefits from the fact that capital is invested in the Krakow SEZ - Witynska-Slacz, representative of the KPT noted.

    Kraków Technology Park Company was founded in 1997 and manages a special economic zone with an area of 558.71 hectares. It also has the status of the technology park. So far, KPT issued 103 permits for activities in the zone. Among the firms in the SEZs are areas such as Comarch, RR Donnelley, Motorola, Shell and MAN Trucks.

    So far, investors have formed at the Krakow Special Economic Zone, a total of 10 thousand jobs and invested 1.7 billion zl.

    In summer 2012 from Krakow Airport you can travel to almost 90 destinations.

    Summer offer Krakow Airport (effective from 25 March) there are cruises up to 68 airports in regular air traffic and 19 charter flights. In the summer, the long-awaited move flights to Moscow (Aeroflot), Amsterdam and Zurich (Eurolot). Lufthansa since the end of March offers flights to Dusseldorf.     Eart Hour 2012

    On Saturday 31 March, promptly at 20.30 will start an international campaign "Earth Hour", organized by WWF. As usual in ecological project will be present Krakow.

    Krakow - the most wonderful city in Europe

    Krakow is the most wonderful city in Poland and one of the twenty most beautiful cities in Europe. Our city made it to the second phase of the New7Wonders Cities competition, ahead of Lisbon, Monte Carlo and Vienna. In the first phase, the largest number of votes in Europe went to Rome, Barcelona and Venice. From among all the cities in Poland, only three made it to the second phase: Krakow in 16th place, Warsaw in 38th and Katowice in 45th place. The ranking shows that only Krakow has the opportunity to make it to the finals (28 cities), as its position is very strong. This is why not only the inhabitants of Krakow should now vote for their city, but all Polish Internet users as well!

    More domestic flights and new flight to Lviv!

    Eurolot has announced its plans for flights from Krakow Airport. In the summer season, the airline will increase the frequency of its domestic flights. The carrier has also announced a new flight, to Lviv. Eurolot plans to launch the flight prior to European Football Championship.

    From mid-April, Krakow Airport will serve flights from Krakow to Gdansk - on Thursdays and Fridays (three times a day) and Sunday (another, additional flight). Flights on all other days will remain unchanged. From mid-April, Eurolot will increase the number of flights between Poznan and Krakow - between Monday and Friday, there will be two flights a day, plus one evening flight on Sundays. From Monday to Friday and on Sundays, the airlines will operate a flight between Krakow and Szczecin. There will be two daily flights on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and one on all other days.

    From Krakow to Venice with Volotea Airlines!

    As of 24th April, you will be able fly from the Krakow Airport to Venice. Two flights a week will be operated by Volotea. From 24th April, Krakow Airport will service flights between Krakow and Venice operated by Volotea, a low-budget air carrier. Voltea will operate the flights from their primary operation base at the Venice Marco Polo airport. Voltea will be the only carrier operating on the Krakow - Venice route and its capacity amounts to 500 passengers per week.

    St. Luke Passion

    On March 31st and April 1st 2012, Alvernia Studios near Krakow will host a preview performance of St. Luke Passion, by Krzysztof Penderecki, directed by Grzegorz Jarzyna.     The Swiss foundation New7Wonders has announced a popularity poll to determine the most beautiful Cities - the new seven wonders of the world. 11 Polish cities are in the running: Bydgoszcz, Gdansk, Katowice, Lublin, Poznan, Szczecin, Torun, Wroclaw, Zamosc, Warsaw and of course Krakow.

    At the preliminary stage of the poll, which lasted until 7th March, Internet users can cast their vote for a selected city.
