Kalamata, one of the major ports in southern Greece, is located at the South West part of the Peloponnese. Its population is approximately 57000 which makes it the second biggest city in the region ofthe Peloponnese. The city is built on the foothills of Taygetos mountain perimetrically to the messinian gulf. Nightlife in Kalamata is one of the main attractions to this city. During winter time,you will find a variety of bars at the historic center while during the summer period you can enjoy your coctails and music in some of the greatest beach bars and clubs. The most notable sight inKalamata is the church of "Agion Apostolon", a small byzantine church where Mavromihalis declared the revolution against the Turkish occupation in 1821. Other than that, you can visit the Castlelocated on the northern part and attend various theatrical plays (mostly amateur). You should not skip a visit to the "Benakeion museum", the "Laografic museum", the Municipal Art gallery and thePublic Library. Finally, you should also take a walk through the biggest park in Greece which also serves as a railway museum.
